Trekking in Oscata

Cammino re lu Osc' zepputo (the pointed forest)

Heading towards Oscata di Sotto, you will cross the valley of the Ischitella stream, reaching after a steep climb the Setoleto district. Amidst a gust of wind, the scent of harvested wheat or freshly plowed soil, you immerse yourself in fields defined by dirt tracks and trails, alternating with wooded areas perched on small ridges. Along the route, it is possible to visit rural fountains and an ancient apiary. The trail covers a distance of 8 km with an estimated duration of about 4 hours.

The brigand's path

Heading towards Oscata di Sotto, take the first road towards the Macchitella area. Passing through groves and fields of wheat or oats, you reach the rugged Tuoro area, where a group of brigands, involved in skirmishes against the Piedmontese army, found shelter. Along the route, it is possible to visit Pietra Durante, the brigands' hideout and the setting that inspired Bice Lapenna's generational novel, then see the Acquafredda spring and a landscape rich in vegetation. The trail covers a distance of 6 km with an estimated duration of about 2 and a half hours.

The wind way

Climbing towards Oscata di Sopra, you encounter the gravel path connecting the wind farm, which runs along the highest ridge. Walking it, you can admire hills and rural landscapes. At the foot of the Serroni ridge, it is possible to refresh yourself with spring water from the homonymous fountain, in the shade of acacias, walnuts, willows, and cypresses. Along the trail, distant panoramas can be glimpsed, such as the Gulf of Manfredonia, the city of Foggia, and the small villages of Daunia in Apulia, or the peaks of the Baronia, Montevergine, the Picentini Mountains in Irpinia, and Mount Vulture in Basilicata. The trail covers a distance of 7 km with an estimated duration of about 2 and a half hours. Continuing south, it is possible to connect with the Appian Way trail, on the section linking Guardia dei Lombardi to Bisaccia.
