Cheesemaker's cellar

The cellar of the farm "Le Ferregne" represents a piece of the Ciani family's history. It is a historic rural building over a hundred years old that once housed the settlers of the previous owners, the D'Albenzio family, a family of Bisaccia landowners. The founder of the Ciani family, "Tata Chele", purchased the farm and the surrounding lands in the early 1900s, starting a centuries-long story that continues to this day.

The family grew, and children were born: Antonio, Saverio, Domenico, and Francesco. However, only Domenico and Francesco remained connected to the small farm, while the others emigrated to the United States, from where Saverio never returned. Domenico and Francesco continued their father's work with dedication until, due to inheritance division, each received their share of the property. In particular, Domenico, in front of the Ferregne (the land from which the farm takes its name), laid the foundations of his family, continuing the care and management of the land. His sons Michele and Antonio then passed this noble craft to the following generations.

Antonio, in particular, became the third generation starting from the 1950s, his son Domenico the fourth generation, and finally Antonio di Domenico the fifth generation. The latter is a member of Oscata inVita and organizes, together with the association, a tasting day at the farm where he shows and offers products made from cow's milk: aged and fresh caciocavallo, ricotta, ricotta cream, and fior di latte, explaining the production process and the care given to the animals and their feeding.
