Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Tangible heritage

As in the ancient Greek poleis, the church of Oscata faithfully reflects the etymological root of the word "church", namely "ecclesia", as public assemblies with the right to speak and vote were called in the cities of Ancient Greece. Indeed, the internal plaque defines the building, newly constructed on the ruins of an old church after the 1980 Irpinia earthquake, as a Community Center. It still serves this purpose today, thanks to the public assemblies organized by Oscata inVita.

Over time, while remaining a consecrated church, the religious functions have decreased due to depopulation in the entire town of Bisaccia, and in Oscata religious celebrations are organized only upon request.

Inside are some paintings by local artists, a modern altar, and the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, to whom the church is dedicated.
